On Sunday, 1 October, the Worthy Grand Knight, Pete McCabe, Worthy Deputy Grand Knight, Bill Bannon, and Worthy Council Life Director, Kevin Manning, volunteered at the Special Olympics-Florida event at Cove Cay Golf Club in Clearwater. This event involved numerous athletes who participated in either 9 holes of golf or a skills competition. Pete, Bill, and Kevin assisted with the skills competition. This involved six events: chip, short-putt, long-putt, pitch, drive with iron, and drive with wood. The athletes have five attempts at each event and scored by how close they got to the pin or how far they drove the ball. It was great to see how much these athletes enjoyed competing no matter how they did. One athlete, Max, was able to get two holes in one and then proceeded to dance with joy each time. A T-shirt and meal were provided, and a short awards ceremony concluded the event. Highly recommend these events to anyone wishing to spend a few hours with these amazing athletes. Brother Kevin Manning will keep us apprised of future opportunities.
